Last school day of 2010!

It seems my last post didn't appear properly. Anyways, the most important day is here!

The last day of school! I would have more "o"s in the word school, but I think you get the point.

Our homework was to finish two new graphics programs, but I think these ones are going to be easier than the bouncing one.

Well, that's all for today! Bye for now, merry Christmas, and have a happy new year!

Just keep on bouncing!

The Christmas break is fast approaching, and we're getting into the mood with a nice graphics assignment!

Everybody seemed to be over-complicating things, until Mr.Arkin told us that we only needed one loop. That definitely threw some people off (like me), so I completely started over. I'm only missing one if statement, but I'm not quite sure what it should be yet. Anyways, that's pretty much all we did for today so bye for now!

Off of the walls!

Today we received our first graphics assignment, which was to ask the user for a character and to make that character bounce off the walls. I'm quite sure that the bouncing is part of a for loop, or something other than an if statement.

Other than that, we also got our tests back. I think this test will definitely help me study for finals when they come after Christmas break, so I'm glad we had them.

That's all that happened today, so bye for now!

Second programming test!

Today every ICS class had their tests, and all I'm going to say is that it was different. It felt easier than our first test, but I'm not sure if that's just my opinion.

Once that was over we had a few minutes left, which Mr.Arkin used to introduce us to graphics. I have already fiddled around with it, but I'm sure that there are some basic things about graphics that I haven't learned yet.

Tomorrow we will get started with graphics, and I'm pretty excited! That's all for today, so bye for now!

Continuing the path 4 freedom!

Yesterday we left off at our quest on making everybody in the class have a perfect understanding (level four, hence the title) of everything we have done in programming so far. Our group made some very good progress, as we have made it well past the three-quarter mark of the work we have done.

Our classes are definitely going to be moving a lot slower these next few days, but it's all to make sure that everybody understands what we have been learning so far!

Anyways, that's all for today so bye for now!

4 THE WIN!

Today was quite an interesting day, so let me tell you why.

First we wrote down a number from one to four representing our knowledge and understanding of the programming unit so far. Then we were put into groups with the people who didn't think they knew very much, so that we could help them get better. Our goal by Monday is to have everybody in the group up to date with everything that is going on!

Tomorrow is the next day of our little tutoring groups, so I'll inform you on what happens next tomorrow!

Tuesday, December 7, 2010

For the loops?

Today in ICS we learned how to create our own functions! This will definitely save a lot more space and make the program more easier to write and edit for the programmer.

On another topic, we learned about for loops! Much like functions, they have their own little section, so somethings are declared inside the loop.

Well I seem to be coming down with a bad cold, so I'm going to go. See you tomorrow!

Enjoy the new background?

My blogs are now slightly more appealing, thanks to a little fiddling with the layout and design.

So, today most of us are passing the halfway mark on our substring assignments, and it's evident that they are getting much harder. The 10th one was the hardest so far, since I wasn't very familiar with the procedure "ord".

We are going to be having a test on Friday, so I'm a little nervous. As long as it has nothing too complex, I think I'll be fine.

Mr.Arkin has been sick for a while now, and we wait for him to come back on Friday. By then we should all have done our substring assignments at least past the 15th one.

Anyways, today was another slow day. We enjoyed having our substitute, and I think she had a very relaxing time.

Bye for now!

Substitute teacher

Today was another day with a substitute teacher, and I think she had an easy day. Since we were all working on our substring assignments, she didn't have to really do anything except supervise us.

Anyways, I'm currently on my fifth substring assignment. It's starting to get trickier as I progress, mainly because of the fact that now I need to change certain letters, not just parts of the word.

We are going to have our test in ICS soon, which doesn't make me too nervous. I think I have pretty much everything down, except for the little things. The mistakes I'll make are probably going to be from small syntactical errors, which is what I'm trying to improve by working harder on my assignments.

Today was a pretty calm day, and nothing other than that happened. I was the student host, but all I really had to do was help some of the kids open the blinds. With that in mind, I say bye for now!

Piano!

Today in ICS Tasfia and I were given a special assignment! To create a piano, using Turing. This would replace our repetition assignment 13, so I thought it would be fun and simple to do!

So far there are a few problems with my piano, like how you can't press two keys at once to make any kind of harmony. Unfortunately for me, people on the internet say it's something you can't change while trying to improve a piano program in Turing.

We will all be finished our repetition assignments tomorrow, so I'm looking forward to it.

Bye for now!

Happy birthday Mr. Arkin!

Since it was Mr.Arkin's birthday today, we all received lollipops! After that we went back to work, with only our final repetition assignment in front of us. After that we will be starting substrings, which I am pretty excited about!

Today was probably the most unproductive flash club day ever, considering the fact that nobody actually worked with any code. It was more like play day.
Well, while we were in flash club, Zelin and I opened up Turing. Zelin showed me some of his cool programs, where you can draw things with the keyboard! We were thinking about making some kind of tiny game, but we needed to learn collision first. We found a program teaching collision, where a box would travel to another box and stop once they touched. Instead of learning anything from it, we went straight to changing the code. In the end we created an effect where the box would bounce of the second one! It was pretty cool, but if we had more time we would've made it a lot more amazing.

Well, today was actually a pretty slow day compared to normal. I learned that I misuse the word "pretty" a lot, just like in the previous sentence. Unfortunately, that's one part of incorrect grammar that is going to stay a part of my speech patterns and idioms. As I was saying, nothing much happened. So... bye for now!

The final stretch

As we worked on our assignments today I couldn't help but think at how much we've learned in just a couple of months. I didn't even know that Turing existed, and I didn't even think it was possible to write programs with free software. Anyways, the class is on the final stretch of this assignment marathon. Another thing that I've been thinking about is a little bit more scary. At the end of all these assignments, there has to be some kind of super assignment to wrap it all up. The substring section doesn't seem to difficult, so I have a feeling it isn't that. Maybe it might be some program that is an index to our other programs! It would take an enormous chunk of code to create something that huge, that branched inside of itself into over 30 different programs. If that happened, I would just explode. I know we would already have all the programs done, but can you imagine the loops necessary?! It would be crazy!

On a different topic, my final product of my race car game in flash club is coming together! Slowly but surely, I have all the elements of code I need. All I need now is to piece them together, and possibly find a better way to decelerate.
The sad thing is that I might have to start missing flash club on Wednesdays, but that is a big might.

Well, that's all the computer-related things that happened to me today, so bye for now!

Turing Font!

Today in ICS was the day that our printer assignments were due. I 'm not quite sure how I did, but I'm going to find out tomorrow. We also had to hand in our eighth repetition assignment. I think mine worked pretty well, it guarded against everything except for different data types.

Anyways, I found out the most amazing thing today! I was looking up how to center text on Turing, when I found a forum discussing fonts. When I copied down the code, it was really quite cool! I'm pretty sure that Turing uses every single font that Microsoft Word 2007 has, but I've only tried two so far. From now on I'm going to use a different font for the header of my assignments instead of just putting a different background around some spaced-out uppercase text!

Today I was thinking about all the interesting things I've found in Turing, and I've decided that I'm going to create a new discussion on Wikispaces about cool things to do in Turing. It isn't just all homework! One of the coolest things I've found was in the Introduction to Programming in Turing on Touque. It was a program where a ball of colour would appear wherever you clicked! I tried fiddling around with it, but all I could do was change the size of the ball. Another interesting thing I found was a way to use "play" in the background of a program. Normally if you used "play" and then used the keyword "put", it would wait for the play to finish before inputting the data. Using a keyword "fork", it can change everything! I  have a few more, but I'm going to save them for the discussion on Wikispaces.

Anyways, bye for now! Don't forget to check the newest discussion form on November 23!

Coffee time?

There is some question on why this post is coming at 11:56 p.m.
All I can say is that McDonald's was giving away free coffee.

Anyways, I managed to finish my 10th assignment for repetition today, which I thought was really quite outstanding. It wasn't as good as my 9th one, but it guards against all conditions (of the same data type).

In class today we desk checked a partners assignment 6, and then analyzed their code. After that we went on the computers to make revisions to our codes, and then worked on other assignments. After a while I finally understood how the keyword "mod" was used for assignment 8. I noticed that quite a few people had problems with it, but I'm sure they should all figure it out by tomorrow.

After school today my new printer finally arrived! It's a scanner, a fax machine, a xerox machine and a printer all in one! I printed out my first sheet of paper coming from my house for the first time in six years. It was really mesmerizing, just staring as the sheet rolled into my hands.

Another thing that happened in room 218 was another exciting day in flash club! We had to create a car that moved in every direction, without using code from the website. When I said I already had done this, they didn't believe me. Once they had seen my code and how unsophisticated it was, they realized that it was the work of a 14-year-old. As I mentioned before, Turing and Flash have a lot of similarities in the code. They have loops, if statements, and much more.

Anyways, that's all that happened today! I mean yesterday. This dragged past midnight, so I better go get some sleep! Bye for now!

Finishing up repetition!

Today in ICS we continued working on our repetition assignments. I'm currently on the tenth assignment, and I realized that if I wanted to make my program as excellent as it could be I would have to use a lot of loops. I ended up having a loop inside of a loop inside of another loop. It got quite confusing, but in the end it worked just as it was supposed to.

I think we now know quite a bit of Turing, so every assignment we do has to be as good as we can make them. The hardest part would be making sure that every different input has the correct outcome, and guarding against invalid inputs.

We found out today that only two other people than me had entered a message for the school's time capsule, which is pretty sad. When they open up the capsule later on, they might wonder why nobody wanted to greet the people of the future. At least I got my message through, and that's all that matters.

That's all that happened today, so bye for now!

Play some music!

Today in ICS we learned about a couple of functions called "whatcol" and "whatrow" and a function called "play". "Whatcol" and "whatrow" are used to identify the location of the cursor. The function "play" is probably the coolest function we have used so far. Using it, you can play music! You can either write down the music as a string "a,b,c,d,e,f,g," or you can use a file outside of the program. Unfortunately the version of Turing we are using doesn't support mp3 format, so if you want to use a song from your computer you will need to convert it into a wav file or a mid file.

In class we had to analyze another code given to us, and once we were finished we headed over to the computers to work on our repetition assignments.

Well, that's all that happened today, so bye for now!

Another Friday!

This week went by extremely fast, but I hope things slow down on the weekend.

Our homework for the weekend was to finish repetition assignments one and two. I'm not sure if there was something else, but if there is I'll check it tomorrow.

In class today we continued learning about loops. We focused today on showing the importance of how the keyword "exit"'s position determines how the program runs. We are supposed to keep it right after a variable changes. Even though we can place it somewhere else and still possibly get the same results, it's just easier and more organized to keep it right after the variable is changed.

Today was also another day at flash club! We learned about arrays, but I think I'm just going to try and finish project formula 1 before testing how arrays work. I've noticed a lot of similarities between Turing and Flash, which is pretty interesting.

That's all that happened today, so bye for now!

Another day in ICS

Today in ICS was just like a regular day, just like any other. For homework, we had to make sure we had our parents sign our tests and bring them back the next day.

We also took up our first program that used accumulators and counters, and I did a pretty good job. I may have complicated my program a little too much, but it executes the way I want it to which is mainly what matters to me.

Today was also remembrance day so we had an assembly in the morning, as well as a moment of silence at 11:00 a.m.

The day was spent mostly on reviewing the errors we made in our tests, and working on the model answers for each question.

Unfortunately that was all that happened today, so bye for now!

First Programming Test!

Today we had our first programming test, and it wasn't too difficult. Unfortunately I didn't remember to study the flow charts so the first question was the hardest for me.

The test took up the entire period, so I guess I can talk about flash club today!

In flash club we continued working on a racing game, and I finally made one of the race cars. I still don't have any boundaries or even a background, so it isn't quite finished yet. I'm hoping to make the car be able to accelerate, because that would make it feel a lot smoother.

That was pretty much my entire day in the room 218 today, so bye for now!

Tuesday, November 9, 2010

Accumulators and Counters!

As you can see in the title, we learned about accumulators and counters today! We also introduced a new section, called the initialization section. This way we can have the program keep track of the number of loops that have passed by, as well as some other cool things!

Tomorrow we are having a test on programming, which makes me a little scared. I'm not sure how long it's going to be, but I guess I'm going to find out first thing tomorrow!

It is also the birthday of Mozilla Firefox! There has already been two other computer-rated people that were born on November, which is pretty weird to think about. Anyways, I'm sure Firefox has come a long way since it was first released!

Well, bye for now!

Friday, November 5, 2010

Analyze that code!

Today in ICS we spent most of the time working on a poster intended for analyizing the code of a model solution to selection assignment 6 in Turing. This ended up taking the entire day, and yet none of us were able to finish by the end of the period.

Today was quite a static day, considering we only worked on one thing.
Since that's all that happened, bye for now!

Computer gone again...

Unfortunately the man who fixed our computer removed all of the Microsoft office programs, so once again I am forced to blog on the tiny screen of an iPod.

Anyways, today in class we had to desk check the code of a Turing assignment. It took some people in the class a little longer than others, but we finally finished desk checking the entire program. In class it seemed like we were about to do some project, but we ended up spending so much time desk checking that we weren't able to start today.

Tomorrow is a Friday! I'm not quite sure if anybody has taken the initiative to creating the playlist for tomorrow, which is unfortunate.

As you may know, it is rather difficult to type on an iPod. That in mind, bye for now!

The most tedious day ever.

Today was extremely exhausting, since my friend Eishan and I spent most the entire day organizing files for the Radisson hotel downtown. It sounded cool at first, but organizing that many files in alphabetical order can really drain a person's energy. Over the span of eight hours, we went through at least 5000 files, 50 loose sheets of papers, and ten different filing cabinets. The letter "C" was the most ridiculous to organize. It took up one and a half of the 10 filing cabinets that were used to store every letter of the alphabet. Who would have Even though this may sound boring (which it was) we still managed to have a lot of fun at the hotel. My mom showed us the best suite in the hotel, which was actually on the third floor.

In between those work periods, we got to see the different departments in the hotel such as the housekeeping department and the sales department. We also went to the staff room! It didn't have the best food, but nobody was complaining. There was some white rice with peas, salad with dressing, chicken pieces and some vegetables. Eishan and I ended up coming back to the staff room a lot to escape the filing cabinet that somehow never stopped producing more work for us, and we found that there were a few coffee machines. Those coffee machines helped us survive today, and made it possible for us to organize each and every file in alphabetical order.

We also got to work on Microsoft Excel to help fill in some numbers for their 2010/2011 budget. It felt like a pretty important job, so I was glad we were there to help.

After all our hard work, we were rewarded with some delicious candy. Those jelly beans made all the work worthwile!

That's all for today, so bye for now!

Take your kids to work day!

Tomorrow is definitely going to be a fun day because of  "Take your kids to work day", where we get to follow our parents to work! My friend and I are going to be following my mom to her hotel, where we get to spend the day working! We'll be helping clean the rooms that guests have stayed in, and we might also get to work at the front desk!

For homework today we had to complete a program that simulated an ATM machine. Instead of using only if statements, we are going to be using case statements as well. Using case statements we'll be able to condense the amount of coding that goes into the program, and display the same results. I'm pretty excited about case statements, because I think it will help us make more complex programs a lot easier to code!

Other than that today was a rather slow day, so nothing much really happened. We learned about case statements, and we also had a sneak preview of repetition assignments. Fortunately for me, I'm already finished five of my repetition assignments, so there wasn't anything too difficult about today's class.

Well, that's pretty much all that happened today. Bye for now!

Monday, November 1, 2010

Enter new statement!

A case statement! Something you might not know about, until now. As shown in the daily log, a case statement can be used if there are to many alternatives in an if statement. This keeps the same result, except in a much more concise format. Now that you know what a case statement is, we can move on!

This paragraph is going to be a little bit more personal than usual. I'm pretty excited for the rest of the week, since tomorrow will be a late start, followed by Take Your Kids To Work day, and then Thursday. I don't know what's so good about Thursday, but I take it as a reminder saying "the weekend is near!", which definitely makes me feel good.

Today in class we worked on making the best possible solution for every selection assignment. This was a project we did in groups, so we were able to combine our ideas and assignments to make one super assignment! Coming up with the best solution was difficult at times, considering everybody in my group had a different approach to the question. Other than finding the best solution to each assignment, we also learned that there are many different ways to create the same result.

I'm not quite sure what the Turing clean-up is, but I'm assuming it is what we were working on in class today. Other than that there wasn't any new homework, but we still need to stay alert for a new quiz may come up at any time.

That's all for today, so bye for now!

Friday, October 29, 2010

Selection complete!

Today I was the student host, so I had to show up 10 minutes before class to help the substitute teacher. Oddly enough, he ended up coming two minutes after the first bell rang. No matter, I got the windows opened up and everybody got to te normal routine rather quickly, so I think I did a good job.

In class today I finally finished all of my selection assignments! I finished three of my repetition assignments, but before I continue with them I'm going to clean-up my website. I didn't do a very good job the first time, but by Monday it will be awesome!

I didn't have any homework today other than the HTML clean-up, so that is what I will be working on.

I didn't manage to hand in my forms for November 3rd, so I'll make sure to hand them in on Monday.

Anyways, that's all for now!

Thursday, October 28, 2010

SPTN!

So far, Turing has been really fun. It has definitely been really cool to make all these programs, but I can't help but wonder what waits at the end of all the assignments.

Aside from that, today in class we had a surprise quiz, followed by some time to work on our assignments. I only have two more assignments to go, and then I'm off to my repetition assignments!

Tomorrow we are going to have a substitute teacher, and I get to be one of the student hosts. That means that I have to come to class tomorrow a little bit earlier, and help the teacher get organized before class starts.

For homework we just had to finish up our selection assignments. Class has been moving a little slowly lately, but I'm sure things will start speeding up again after Monday!

That's all for today, so bye for now!

Fixed computer!

My computer has finally been fixed! Hooray! I no longer have to blog from my iPod!

Anyways, in class today we learned about the keywords "and" and "or". Unlike English, these have slightly different meanings. "And" means at the same time, which means that all of the values must be true for it to work. "Or" means one or the other or both. That means that either one or both of the values have to be true for it to work.

For homework today we had to get much deeper into our selection assignments, but it's a good thing for me that I did most of my assignments on the weekend. Now I'm only three assignments away from becoming finished!

Once we finish selection, we will be moving on to repetition. Once we finish our repetition assignments, I think we will be able to make some fairly decent programs!

I can't express how much of a relief it is to be able to type on a keyboard while blogging, instead of tiny letters on a tiny screen. Now that my computer is back I'm sure that my future blogs will be much more interesting, and they won't seem rushed like they have for the past few days. Bye for now!

Virus?

Unfortunately for me, my computer has been infected with multiple viruses. It's a good thing that I have my iPod, because the only thing not working on my computer is the Internet. Thanks to my iPod I can still check my homework and post my daily blog.

Anyways, over the past couple of days we have learned about desk checking and if statements. Desk. Checking is essentially reading over the programs code for mistakes before executing the program. This way it will be easier to see the mistakes in our programs. If statements let the user have options in in the program. This way, we can provide a more sophisticated program.

Today in class we also learned about Boolean expressions. Boolean expressions can have one of two values, true or false.if a statement is true it will be executed, and if a statement is false it will be skipped.

It is actually quite difficult to type all of this using such a small keyboard, but until my computer gets fixed it will have to do. That's all for now!

Selection!

Today in ICS I finally finished all of my Turing assignments and learned how to put colour in Turing as well! Now that I'm done my input assignments, I decided to start working on some selection assignments. It took me a while to understand how it works, but now that I've figured it out I'm sure I can make some really amazing programs!

Some of the selection assignments look a little difficult, but I'm sure I'll be able to finish them quickly!

Since most of the kids in class were gone on a field trip, we didn't do very much today. All we did was work on our input assignments, so with that in mind, bye for now!

Turing tests

Today we received our marks from our first HTML assignment, and I wasn't too happy about my mark. Instead of feeling bad, this will motivate me to do better in future assignments. Now that we have our marks back, we are going to start getting quizzes on Turing, which gives me a chance to redeem myself.

Today in ICS we talked about some pointers to help teach us where and how we lost marks, as well as to prevent it from happening on any other HTML assignments we receive in the future.

On a different matter, I learned how to put collie in my Turing programs. It is still a little new to me, so I'm going to wait for Mr.Arkin to explain it a little more thoroughly.

I am also curious to learn about selection in Turing, as it will let the user of the program have options and choices.

Anyways, bye for now!

Blog problems...

Today I wasn't able to go on Blogger for some reason, but I figured out that I could still blog from my iPod touch! For some reason Blogger on Internet Explorer would not let me log in, and on Firefox it kept refreshing the page everytime I tried to type something. I'm not very sure what really happened, but it isn't too much of an inconvenience.

Anyways, today in ICS we reviewed our homework from the previous day. Our group finally managed to get the code to work perfectly in all situations, however the user must use the 24-hour clock system, and if going to the next day you must use 25h, 26h, etc.

Tommorow I'm going to go find out if it's my computer or the actual website which is causing the problems on the site.

Anyways, bye for now!

Another day at ICS

Today was a very calm day at ICS. The entire class was working on figuring out how to make a turing program function properly, and eventually we managed to do so.

For homework today we recieved a few more Turing assignments, and I found one of them rather difficult. I managed to get it to work, however it can only use time frames from the same day.

After the day was over I found out from Mr.Arkin that it is possible to have colour in your Turing programs, so I'm going to find out all about it tommorow. I don't think that theres any kind of CSS for Turing, so I'm sure it will all be in the same subprogram. I'll figure out how to use it properly tommorow!

Well, bye for now!

Thursday, October 14, 2010

Borders?

Today in ICS we had to create borders around the inside of the run window. The trick is, without extra options the border cannot perfectly fit.

I tried a few different ways to get the border to fit, however they were all "cheating" since I either increased the run window'size or decreased the border's size. I finally figured out that the reason It was not occupying the last line was because of the verb "put". This forced extra space at the bottom, making everything shift up. I eventually figured out that by using the "dot-dots", I could keep from skipping the line, and have the bottom of the border perfectly fit in. Unfortunately, this method was not the easiest way, and took up alot of extra space. I couldn't figure out how to shorten it, however I'm sure we'll learn about it tommorow.

So far I'm finding programming really fun, except for the task where we had to make my name. My full name is 21 letters long, so I wasn't too thrilled about that part. Other than that, it is really fun.

That's all for now!

Tuesday, October 12, 2010

More Turing!

Today for homework we had to do some assigments on Turing, where we learned how to use field width to keep things legible and organized.

In class today we mainly worked on learning how the verb "put" affects the objects, and the proper terms. We no longer say "the things in the quotation," we now say "character strings!". Turing seems complex so far, but just like html, I hope we catch on quickly.

Nothing very exciting happened today, since people were a little drained from their long weekend.

Anyways,  bye for now!

Friday, October 8, 2010

Party day!

Today we had a really amazing party, and it wasa nice break from our usual work.

On the other hand, I am really excited to continue our lessons on Turing, because it seems like you can make some really cool things with it.

I don't really have much left to say, so bye for now!

Thursday, October 7, 2010

Turing time!

Today in ICS2O we learned what turing is, and we made a very simple application that acted like a calculator, except had no correct answers. It might've sounded useless, but it was still pretty cool!

Tommorow we're going to be having a party, but I'm not quite sure I can come since I'm sick. If I can come, I'll try and bring napkins. I couldn't say that I was bringing napkins in the wiki, since I wasn't sure if I was going to school or not.

Hopefully we're going to get to make a few more things using turing tommorow, because it seems really fascinating. Anyways, bye for now!

Wednesday, October 6, 2010

Woops!

Whoa! I completely forgot about my daily blog! Yesterday I remember checking my agenda to see that I had to do it, and after that is all just a blurry fuzz.

Anyways, today in computer science we learned the coolest thing ever. Binary code! I remember my friend saying he could "speak" binary code, and started blabbering 0s and 1s. I thought he was just talking nonsense, and that there was no such thing. I found out that he was talking nonsense, but there actually is a way to represent letters with binary code.

Mr. Arkin put up a blog completely in binary code, and I can't wait to figure it out. In fact, i'm going to work on that right after this.

Anyways, 011000100111101001100101 for now!

The weekend!

Today at ICS2O7 we recieved some more formal definitions to put into our basic class glossary. For homework, the main thing was to get our glossary validated and on the web.

In class today I also learned how to make it easier to validate your site. By selecting the options "verbose output", "show outline", and "show source", you will be able to see where your error is on the source, and you won't have to switch back and forth between the source to see where the problem is.

At home today I figured out that you can't keep definition definition tags inside a paragraph. Instead, you have to keep the paragraph tag in between the definition definition tag and the content.

Other than that I didn't really do much today, since I feel lazier than usual. That's all for now!

Finishing the Glossary!

Yeah! I'm almost done my glossary, but when I checked Filezilla it wouldn't let me log on. I probably made a spelling mistake, so I'll check with one of my friends later today.

After I finish all the hard part on the glossary (the content) I'm going to make it look super awsome with a new CSS!

In class today I figured out why my glossary had so many errors while validating. While I was working on it, I was so sleepy that I ended the <dt> tags with </dl> which really didn't make any sense at all. Now, however, my glossary is good to go!

For homework today we had to do the normal stuff, like work on choosing who will be class rep and who will be DJ for studio 218. I would be the DJ, but unfortunately I'm not very law abiding when it comes to music.

Time to finish up my glossary, so that's all for today!

Definitions!

Today our main goal was to make progress on our glossary, and most of the students in our class are doing pretty well!
For homework today we had to validate and work on our glossary websites, and we had to make a page on wikispaces for the Class A Rep. I see that Lisa has already taken care of that, and because of what she wrote I'm definately voting for her!
The coolest part about class today was with the DropBox. I learned that I can get DropBox on my ipod touch, so I can upload videos and songs and pictures from my iPod straight to the computer! Its like a free USB drive that takes up no space at all!

I'm kind of crammed with homework today, so I better get started on that. Bye for now!

Glossary Galore

Today in ICS2O7 we were mainly taking notes. We learned about how to make a glossary, and also about something called DropBox. Its basically like a USB drive, except it's on the internet so you don't have to carry it around. It backs up all your files, and we already get 2.25 GB free!

For homework we had to make our glossary skeleton, with the definitions of everything in our glossary. We also had to make it valid.

I tried to find Mr.Arkin after school, but I guess he left the school early. Unfortunately I still haven't handed in my website even though it's finished, so I'm just going to have to wait to find out what happens for that.

I guess today we had more homework then usual, but it's not too much.
Anyways, that's all for now!

URGENT!

This is a really important post for me.

Today as I was putting up my website.html, the server just stopped working. Now i'm left with no website on the web, so technically I don't really have anything. I hope this won't completely fail me...

For homework today we had to finish our assignment, since it was due today. I'm pretty sad now since I'm not quite sure what's going to happen to my website...

In class today I learned on how to make proper internal links, and I also got some quality work finished.

Anyways, I'm just going to start trying to get back into FileZilla, I just hope that it isn't going to be offline for a long time...

Almost done!

Today is our last day to finish up our super-power autobiographies, so I'm sure there's gonna be a lot of people doing some last minute work! Thankfully, I'm almost done. I just need to fix a few things on how it looks, and check to make sure that everything I did was valid, spelled correctly, and easy to read!

For homework today, it was pretty obvious on what we had to do. For the people who weren't at class today, it was to finish our autobiographies. The due date is tommorow at 10:00 p.m., which should be enough for everybody to finish in time!

During class today I learned how to make my images just where I want them in css, and how to make my borders look cool as well! We also learned how to leave comments, mainly to help tell people what colour we are using instead of having them check up on a hex-code colour chart.

I'm pretty proud about what I accomplished on my website so far, the last time I tried making a website it was just text and a solid green background with some banners I found on the internet. And it wasn't exactly a website, since it wasn't on the web.

Anyways, that's all for today! I better finish this up!

Finishing up the assignment!

Hey! Yesterday was my birthday, so I was pretty distracted by my gifts to make that much progress on my website.

Today at class we learned about how to use the same css between your website and your index, which could be pretty useful for somebody who has a special theme in their work.
For homework today we had to finish or at least get close to finishing our websites, since its due on Friday.

Nothing else really happened, so i'm just going to work on my website.
By for now!

The story begins!

Today is the day that we found out about the due date for our website, and it is also the day where I came up with my spectacular idea for a super-power! Well, I think it's spectacular.

Anyways, for homework today we just had to keep making progress in our websites. We're all on our final stretch, even though it seems like the only thing we're doing is making our websites look pretty.

During class today, I spent most of my time just thinking about how I wanted my website to go. I originally wanted a super-power relating to water, but I couldn't think of a way to make a good story with that. Instead, I just came up with flame vision which would be quite easy to make a story for. Once I got home, I realized that flame vision may be easier, but it didn't really seem as cool as I wanted the super-power to be. I think I've come up with something good, but it's up to Mr.Arkin and the rest of the class to judge that.

Other than that, nothing very interesting happened today. Oh well!
That's all for today!

Studio 218?

Today was a pretty cool day, since we learned that on fridays, things work differently in computer science...
We now get to pick one DJ every week and they have to play a list of clean and legal songs for us. Unfortunately, I'm not going to be able to be DJ since I don't meet one of the criteria.
*Cough*-legal*Cough*

Anyways, Our homework today was to...
Darn, I can't read my own writing in the agenda. It looks like it said that I have to google search "treading". I'll ask one of my friends.
We also had to continue on our assignments, and think about who we want as DJ, or what songs we might want!

In class I was finally able to validate everything! Now both my index and website have valid html/css.

As for studio 218, It's going to be my birthday soon and I think my mom is getting me an ipod, so I'll try and keep my songs legal =D
That's all for today!

My Daily Blog!

WOOPS! I accidentally forgot to put up my daily blog yesterday...

Anyways, yesterday for homework we had to have our index.html valid in html and in css.
Validating was a lot trickier than I thought, because the errors and warnings were quite difficult to understand. After fiddling around with it for a while, I managed to find all my mistakes and validate my index!

For homework today, we had to read over the typography section in touque.ca. It looked complicated at first, but it gave me a lot of good tips to keep my website easier to read, and more appealing too.

In class most of us were working on validating things, since Filezilla was all filled up in the first few seconds.
We also learned a few things about our internet browsers, and how to increase our efficiency without wasting time clicking on the mouse. I found out that there are a lot of keys that can really help you go faster, like pressing "alt + f4" to close the page.

At the end of class i'm sure most of us were able to get our index.html valid, and we also now know how to use a computer pretty well without a mouse!

That's all for today!

Sixth day at ICS2O7 :)

Today in computer science most of us were either working on our websites or uploading our index.html to Filezilla. I wanted to check something on Filezilla, however there were too many people logged on.
For homework we hadn't really been assigned anything, other then making progress on our websites.
Today was pretty scary because I actually lost my usb stick twice! Once it was in my bag, and the other time it was in my jeans.
I checked out how some of the other kids were doing in their projects and some of them were really outstanding. Others... not so much.
I'm making fair progress on my website, however for some reason I just can't get the background image to work. I had it working before, but once I changed the picture it just came as a blank background.
At the end of class, I realized that it had been a pretty unproductive day for me. I hadn't manage to do anything except fiddle with my website's html.
Anyways, thats all for today!

The REAL Fifth Day at ICS2O7

Hey! Today is our actual fifth day at ICS2O7, contrary to my post on Saturday.
In class today, we all had to download Filezilla and post our index.html which would link to our websites and blogs. It didn't have to be complete yet, but it had to be uploaded.
For homework, we had to upload our index if we hadn't done so already and we had to work on our websites.
People in class asked alot of good questions today, so I found it very informative.
At the end of the class I learned a few things about how to properly connect to the FTP address, and then how to upload our progress. I also learned how to view the CSS of a website thanks to Mr.Arkin, because I thought there might have been another button to push instead of "View Source". That's all for now!

Fifth Day at ICS2O7 :)

Well, today isn't really the fifth day at ICS2O7, considering its the weekend. No matter, I'm still going to report what I have done today!

I noticed that yesterday even though i made a blog, for some reason it didn't publish. I only noticed today, where when I checked the posts I made it had said that my last blog was only a draft.

I'm not quite sure how to link the index.html to our website and blog, but I hope it will be the same as how we linked our stylesheets to the html page.

I've been lazing around most of the day, so not much progress has been made to the autobiography! I'll do my best to finish it all up tommorow, but I don't want to submit it yet just in case theres any way I can make it better. Even though we haven't been given a due date yet, I still want to be finished or at least close to finishing by Monday!

Fourth Day at ICS2O7 :)

Today it was a very calm day. Everybody was busy working on their websites, and I finally learned how to use stylesheets! There are still a lot of things I don't understand yet, but I think I'm okay for now.
For homework we have to finish up our autobiography. I hope the super-power I chose wasn't too cliche, but I'm sure the mark doesn't rely too heavily on our choice in super-powers.
The main problem I'm facing now is that my notes were a little messy, so I'm not quite sure where to indent everything. I'll get that checked out on Monday.
Anyways, I'm still experimenting around with stylesheets, so I'm probably going to start my autobiography over to get a clean slate.

*I know this was posted on Saturday, I accidentally saved this as a draft instead of publishing it on Friday, which is why it didn't post yesterday.

Third Day at ICS2O7 :)

Today was quite a day! When we went to the computers to try some new things with our websites, we realized there were still a number of students who couldn't log in to their account yet. The substitute teacher made the decision to send  me to the library, where I asked the librarian to help reset the passwords for the kids that couldn't log in. After that, everybody was doing fine.
For homework I continued working on my autobiography, (which I think is going pretty well) and also wrote this blog about today.
Today's class was definately helpful, since both of the people around me knew something about html that i didn't, and vice versa.
Im still not very clear with how to use the style sheets, but that's what I'm going to be working on after this! Hopefully by Sunday I should be done my assignment, so all of you should be able to see it on the FTP address =D
Bye for today!

Second day ICS2O7 :)

Today at school we had too take in too much information to handle, but that's why we have notebooks! =D
We learned what the Super-Powered Autobiography assignment was and also how to make a simple website with stylesheets and html. =O
For homework I just made my first blog, and also made a small website about pokemon! O_o
Im gonna expiriment more with the website, because i haven't done that much with it yet.

At first I thought that computer science was going to be easy, but after today I realized that this could get quite complicated. Even so, it's still fun!
Bai =D
